Art school is for frauds. Sure, you might’ve moved to Detroit afterwards or maybe you’re currently couch surfing your way to oblivion, but we dare you to embrace the life of an artist like these two. From being involved with heavily influential acts like Einsturzende Neubauten and Crime and The City Solution, to exhibiting their visual work all around the world, Alexander Hacke and Danielle DePicciotto explain what living for your art is all about. What made you decide to embrace the nomadic lifestyle? We felt we needed to widen our horizon. After moving to Berlin in 1987 from NYC, I have been living in Berlin ever since and Alexander was born in Berlin. We both felt that we...
Was it an easy transition from musician to actor? It wasn't difficult, but it just took a few years to have much stuff happen. I've taken several acting and improv classes (some good, some a waste of time and money) .In the last year I have (finally) found good representation in the form of Dan Moresco at Paradigm (agent) and Jennifer DaRe at ATN Entertainment (manager). There are some really exciting projects in the near and in the distant future. What’s the most challenging thing you’ve had to do as an actor? Hmmmm . . . act. Obviously as a musician your performances were physically demanding, intense and definitely put the observers on notice that they might be an unwilling witness to...

Before heading out for the Wrekmeister Harmonies European tour, we made a three-day stopover in Brooklyn, NY to hold a cupping event featuring a small line-up of coffees from the Fuyan and Banka cooperatives in the Pu’er, Yunan region of southwest China. Observing and understanding coffee production firsthand in Yunnan has been a personal project of mine which I have been pursuing over the past three years. I’ve cupped through many coffees from this southwestern province of China and in my humble opinion, these two cooperatives located right at the border of Burma and Yunnan are pioneers of the specialty coffee industry in China – taking great risks in a thoughtful meaningful way to elevate coffee quality and explore new...
More like where the hell have we been? It seems like just a few weeks ago we were introducing ourselves and honestly we couldn’t have been happier with all the kind words and photos posted up of our new baby. Since that time we headed out on a tour of musiks and coffee related experiences that will have us circling this giant rock we call home for the next 8 weeks. We split from Astoria and headed to the bay area for a cupping at CoRo, in that bastion of liberality called Berkeley, then endured an excruciating Spirit Airlines flight to that grimy grey lady Chicago for a second cupping courtesy of Metropolis and for the hell of it at...
