Carmen Cecilia Montoya is a second-generation coffee producer, community leader, and trailblazer from Urrao, Antioquia in northwest Colombia. She began her journey in 2011 with a small piece of land, growing a unique variety called Caturra Chiroso - completely unknown to the coffee world at the time and found only in the Urrao area. Together with her family, through careful cultivation and processing, she won the Cup of Excellence in 2014, allowing her to gain notoriety and continue to grow as a producer and leader.
Today she has around 19,000 coffee plants all of Caturra Chiroso variety and spends much of her time assisting fellow farmers in enhancing their coffee producing processes. She especially focuses on hiring female cherry pickers who are the heads of their families with the hopes of providing them with financial stability and also encouraging their growth to become leaders in the coffee growing community.
We are honored to present to you one of the lots of this unique Caturra Chiroso variety from Carmen's Bella Vista farm. We found the cup profile to be sweet and delicious layered with notes of chocolate, gingersnap, and toasted walnut. Please enjoy!
