Nyeri is located at the base of Mount Kenya where fertile volcanic soil and freshwater streams fill the landscape. While fertile terroir is ideal, most would agree cup quality comes from Kenya’s notable commitment to processing cherry. The entire 72 hour regimen includes a triple fermentation (both dry and wet) and a double wash to remove any lingering fruit.  Drying cherries is a two step process, the first on skin drying beds to allow the water weight to fall over the course of morning and then onto raised drying beds for 8 to 12 days.

The lot we bring to you is from the Gaturiri factory of the Barichu Farmers Cooperative Society located in Mathira, Nyeri which serves about 1500 small scale producers.  Farmers are encouraged to become members of a cooperative, which markets and sells coffee on the whole community's behalf.  Most farmers in Kenya are smallholders and typically produce enough cherry for just a few bags.  Washing stations are often called ‘factories’ and play an enormous role in the quality of the final product.

We selected this delicious lot from Gaturiri for its supremely juicy and sweet profile with notes of papaya, blackberry cobbler, and amber honey.  The Gaturiri is truly the perfect pairing for a beautiful sunny day, so please enjoy.  Cheers!
