Referred to many as the cultural capital of Andean Antioquia, Sonsón is located deep in the southern region of Colombia within the east-central Andes Mountain range. The many small Andean rivers which irrigate the land along with the tropical microclimate create ideal conditions for coffee growing.
The producers in Sonsón work closely with the fair-trade certified Cooperativa de Caficultores de Antioquia. The cooperative buys coffee from then producers at fair prices and analyzes their lots for quality. This allows them to send the lots to exporters at the appropriate quality level and price. The cooperative uses all of its premiums from fair trade to provide training programs and projects to improve coffee quality and productivity. Additionally, all cooperative members are allowed democratic participation in the association which promotes self-help, mutual aid, and solidarity amongst the members.
The lot we bring to you today consists of the higher quality lots selected by the Cooperativa de Antioquia from the Sonsón community. A nice velvety body with notes of dark chocolate, dried cherry, and baking spices makes this coffee a soothing cup to sip on.
